During the 2019 season, we collected six surfboards and donated them to Ahanta Wavecamp in Busua, Ghana. Click here for our 2020 trip report and join the "Boards for Good" campaign.
Working towards a better world through surfing while having fun. We aim to bring the world a little closer together, united by a shared passion for surfing.
Surfbretter von denen zu sammeln, die mehrere haben, und sie zu denen bringen, die sich mit Surfen in ihrem Umfeld sozial oder ökologisch einbringen und die Surfbretter gebrauchen können.
To collect surfboards from those who have spares and get them to people who are making a social or environmental impact in their local surfing communities and can put the boards to good use.

Part with your prized board for a good cause. And the better the condition of the boards, the better! Shortboards, fish, Malibus, longboards, soft-tops—anything goes, except windsurf boards, SUPs, or kiteboards.
Drop off your boards with us—we guarantee they will reach the recipient before the start of the next season.
We’ll show you what the recipients do with the boards and inspire you to visit the country yourself through travel stories.
In 2017, Michi and his wife Lorena were on a surfing holiday in Ghana. During a wipeout in the shorebreak, her surfboard snapped.
Afterward, they wanted to replace the board for the "Ahanta Waves" surf school, where they had rented it. The school's owner, Peter Ansah, appreciated the gesture but explained that he couldn't use the money to buy a new surfboard because none were available for purchase in Ghana.
Michi then had the idea of collecting surfboards and shipping them to Ghana; he shared this concept with Thilo at the next "Surf Days" event in Stuttgart. During the event, many people brought along their—often well-used—surfboards (previously used for river surfing) to test them on the Surf Days wave.
So, what could be more natural than combining the two? With the help of Surf Days, we collect surfboards and, at the end of the season, get them to someone who can really use them. Surf Days is still looking for a sponsor to cover shipping costs; otherwise, we will pay for the transport of up to 10 boards out of our own pockets.
Freesurfing—surfing outside of competitions—is defined by peaceful, open-minded people with a passion for new experiences and adventure. Just as we leave home in search of waves, people in countries with surfable waves sometimes have to leave their homes to find work.
If surfing allows us to utilize the wave-rich regions of our planet economically in a way that reduces the need for migration, that is the best possible outcome. Furthermore, surfing fosters an ecological awareness that aligns development aid with nature. That is why combining surfing with philanthropy, travel, and sport is the perfect approach for us. "Bretter für die Welt" thus serves merely as a foundation for doing good through our passion.
